While I firmly believe that everyone should practice Pilates, and that every single body can benefit from this amazing system of exercise, I also admit that it might not be everyone's preferred style of working out.
Perhaps you love to go hard and fast, get up a sweat, and feel the burn. Perhaps you love to feel sore the day or two after exercise. Maybe you like to listen to music, tune out, and let your mind wander. Maybe cardio is your thing. All of these things are great, but not something you will necessarily get from Pilates.
Instead, what you will get, is a focused, mindful movement experience. There are moments of intensity, but repetitions are limited. There are times when you are shaking and you don't even understand why. Adhering to the Pilates principles of control and precision mean that there is no room to let your mind wander to your to-do list or what to make for dinner; you are focused on your body, your movement and your breath for the entire session.
The result of this kind of movement practice is one that is invigorating. You won't feel wiped out at the end. You will feel taller, aligned, and energised. While you might feel slightly sore in muscles that haven't worked this way before, I don't aim to make you feel so sore that you are cursing me for days afterwards. Exercise doesn't need to be punishing to be beneficial. By following a structured and progressive program, you will build strength and capacity without even realising it.
If this sounds like the kind of movement that resonates with you, join us for the next course. Get ready to feel better with Pilates.
